The Ark Lodge Aberdare is one of Kenya’s more unusual hotels, built literally in the style of Noah’s Ark. It is beautifully situated overlooking a waterhole in the heart of Aberdare National Park. This triple-storey hotel has 60 comfortable cabins, so it’s fairly large and best suited for those who enjoy mixing with fellow travellers. The drawcard here is its position. This game-rich reserve has a staggering diversity of wildlife that is drawn to the waterhole. At night, floodlights are switched on so viewing can continue after dark. This can be done from the comfort of the lounges, dining room, and multi-level decks.
The Ark Lodge Aberdare sixty cabins are set out across the top three floors. They run along either side of the hotel, with wonderful views of the surrounding forest and waterhole. They range in size from singles to twins or doubles, and family rooms with three beds. All are en-suite with a shower, and are fairly compact but very comfortable. If you don’t want to miss the nocturnal activity, an optional buzzer lets you know when animals are present at the floodlit waterhole.
