Classic Great Migration safari – Tanzania & Kenya

Upon your arrival at Kilimanjaro International Airport, our safari guide will meet you based on your flight schedule. You will then be transferred to Arusha town, which is approximately a one-hour drive away.

Once you arrive at the lodge, you can enjoy some leisure time while preparing for the departure of your Classic Great Migration Safari the following morning, starting with a visit to the Ngorongoro Crater.

After enjoying your breakfast, you will embark on a journey to Ngorongoro Crater, which is approximately a 4-hour drive away. Bypass the crowds at Lake Manyara National Park and reach Craters Edge Camp in time for lunch. This afternoon, you can partake in various activities available at the camp. We suggest taking a walk to the nearby Maasai boma to stretch your legs.

The following morning, you will set out to explore the Ngorongoro Crater. The advantageous location of Craters Edge Camp on the rim provides swift access to the crater floor, allowing you over an hour to explore before other vehicles arrive.

Ngorongoro Crater, recognized as the world’s largest intact volcanic caldera, features steep sides and is home to the highest concentration of large animals in Africa. It has earned its reputation for unparalleled Big 5 game viewing, where you can spot elephants, rhinos, buffalo, lions, and leopards.

Upon returning to camp, you will find a classic suite room awaiting you, complete with a bathtub and hot water, as well as home-cooked meals served under the stars.

After enjoying your breakfast at the camp, you will depart for approximately two hours to the Manyara airstrip, where you will board a light aircraft for your flight to Serengeti National Park. Upon arrival, your guide will be present at the airstrip to escort you to your next lodging at Cherero Camp.

Once you are welcomed by our safari guide, you will proceed with an en route game drive to your accommodation, where a hot lunch will be served.

Cherero Camp provides a tranquil retreat in the heart of the wilderness, situated in a secluded area between the central and western Serengeti, where the herds of the Great Migration can be observed. By May to June, the wildebeest migration reaches the Grumeti River and the Western Corridor, where dramatic river crossings take place. During these crossings, the wildebeests must traverse crocodile-infested waters, and many unfortunately fall prey to these predators.

From late July to October, you will have the opportunity to take a flight to Aurari Camp, located in the northern Serengeti, which is ideally positioned to witness the herds as they continue their northward migration into the Mara River, ultimately crossing into Kenya’s Masai Mara Reserve.

You will be picked up from your lodge in Serengeti and transported to Grumeti/Seronera Airstrip for your flight to the Masai Mara National Reserve. During the journey, you will make stops at Tarime Airstrip and Sirari border posts to complete passport control before proceeding to the Masai Mara.

Upon your arrival at Keekorok Airstrip, your guide will meet you and transfer you in your private vehicle to your camp at Sand River Mara.

Sand River Masai Mara is a perfect destination at any time of the year for those who wish to experience exceptional game-viewing. The National Reserve is renowned for its significant populations of big cats, including leopards, cheetahs, and, of course, lions. The dramatic onset of the Annual Migration only enhances the already plentiful resident wildlife that is waiting to be discovered. Game drives led by expert guides provide the opportunity to observe the remarkable wildlife that inhabits this expansive reserve, including the Big Five and the annual wildebeest migration. Hot air balloon rides offer a distinctive view of the landscape and wildlife, while guided walks with Maasai warriors present an insight into the local culture and lifestyle.

After a hearty breakfast on your last day, you will be transferred to Keekorok Airstrip for your scheduled flight to Nairobi for your onward travels arrangements to markup the end of your Classic Great Migration Safari.
