Kenya Safaris

A country in East Africa, the Republic of Kenya borders the Indian Ocean to the southeast, Tanzania to the south, Uganda to the west, Sudan to the northwest, Ethiopia to the north, and Somalia to the northeast. Lake Victoria is shared between Uganda, Tanzania, and Kenya. The capital is Nairobi. The total area is 58,000 sq. km and the population is estimated to be 51,903,301 million (2018).

There are over 40 different ethnic groups in Kenya. Kenya’s diverse areas range from highlands over low plains to sandy beaches on the coast of the Indian Ocean.

The Great Rift Valley is home to Africa’s biggest fresh water lake, Lake Victoria. The plateaus boast the highest point in the country: Mount Kenya the second highest in Africa and the country takes its name from the mountain. There’s the opportunity of witnessing one of nature’s natural wonders the Great Migration of wildebeest and zebra and the chance of seeing the Big Five. You can visit the bustling city of Nairobi; go snorkeling on coral reefs or visit a traditional Maasai village; the opportunities are endless in Kenya.

One of the best times to visit Kenya is from July to September, during the country’s dry season, which also coincides with the Great Migration of wildebeest and zebra. The rainy seasons are also good times to travel, as there are fewer visitors and you can admire the striking emerald vegetation.

December in particular is a great time to travel to Kenya, since the rains are short and you have the chance to see newborn animals and migratory bird species. Only the peak of the ‘long rains’ in March, April and May are very wet.

Kenya’s climate varies from tropical along the coast to temperate inland to arid in the north and northeast parts of the country. The area receives a great deal of sunshine every month. It is usually cool at night and early in the morning inland at higher elevations.

The “long rains” season occurs from March/April to May/June. The “short rains” season occurs from October to November/December. The rainfall is sometimes heavy and often falls in the afternoons and evenings. The temperature remains high throughout these months of tropical rain. The hottest period is February and March, leading into the season of the long rains, and the coldest is in July, until mid-August.
